Local Doctor Jason Levy Appointed as Red Bull Soccer Team Chiropractor
Short Hills , N.J. — Along with heart-pumping action and spectator thrills, professional soccer delivers up plenty of post-game aches and pains for player joints and limbs. Players on Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls can now count on the skill and expertise of local chiropractor Dr. Jason Levy to help mend injuries from competition and restore bodies and energies.
Owner and founder of the Advanced Performance and Rehabilitation Center (APRC) in Short Hills, Dr. Levy was appointed Team Chiropractor for the Red Bulls at the start of this year’s season in early April. In his new position, Dr. Levy is present at team practices and home games, where he typically provides chiropractic adjustments for most of the team’s 28 players, and more active treatment as needed for injuries.
Led by former U.S. National Team manager Bruce Arena, American star Claudio Reyna and Columbian international forward Juan Pablo Angel, the Red Bulls currently play their matches at Giant Stadium. The team plans to move into its own venue, Red Bull Park, located in Harrison, New Jersey, during the 2008 season.
APRC specializes in treating sports injuries and orthopedic conditions and has treated hundreds of athletes from Essex, Morris and Union Counties during its ten years in operation. In addition to his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Levy holds advanced certifications as a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) and as a practitioner of the highly regarded Active Release Technique ® (ART) for treating soft-tissue injuries. For patients suffering from neck and lower back disc injuries, he also provides expertise in advanced therapy using a spinal decompression table; APRC is among only a select number of chiropractic offices with a table on premises.
Dr. Levy’s unusual combination of credentials, experience and reputation in sports chiropractic is what brought him to the attention of Red Bulls team management. Red Bulls head athletic trainer Rick Guter said, “Problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves are all standard fare for professional athletes, and we seek out and rely on leading therapies, such as ART, and the best available practitioners. Dr. Levy’s special skill in those therapies and background in sports chiropractic make him a great addition to our medical and training staff.”
For Dr. Levy, a South Orange native and former varsity soccer captain at Columbia High School, his new position caps a lifelong passion for soccer. He said, “Working with the Red Bulls is a dream job for me and a great honor. I’m a real soccer fan, and working with a pro team allows me to be part of the action. It doesn’t get any better!”
The Active Release Technique provided by Dr. Levy for both Red Bulls players and patients in his private practice uses specialized massage combining precisely focused tension with specific, directed patient movements. Following a hands-on assessment at the beginning of each session, ART targets stressed or over-used muscles and other soft tissues. It releases scar tissue build-up to restore mobility and strength to muscles, prevent tendonitis, and eliminate tingling, numbness and weakness from trapped nerves. There are more than 500 specific ART protocols applied by the practitioner in highly individualized treatments.
The benefits of Dr. Levy’s spinal decompression table are available to his patients at APRC, as well as Red Bulls players. Spinal decompression tables are designed to relieve nerve pressure caused by bulging and herniated disc material. Non-surgical, non-invasive procedures are used in the application of negative pressure to move disc material back into place. Discs are also re-hydrated as they heal, and outer ligaments are strengthened.
In addition to Dr. Jason Levy, the APRC group practice also includes podiatrist Dr. Jessica Levy and licensed physical therapist Lovelyn Ravago.
